The Port of Santos, on the coast of São Paulo, registered the largest movement of containers for the month of October, in 2020. There were 4.3 million tons, an increase of 0.2% over the previous record, reached in the same month in 2019. The data were released by the Santos Port Authority (SPA), the Santos Port Authority.

According to the survey, the performance reflects the beginning of the economic recovery during the pandemic. According to the SPA, in October, 383,933 TEU were handled (standard measure for the 20-foot container). In tonnage, containerized cargo also broke a record for the month, with 4.3 million tons.

There was also a highlight for the transportation of cargoes of soy and sugar, with 21.1 million and 20.1 million tons, respectively, with increases of 19.9% ​​and 68.1%. There was also an increase in the movement of cellulose, with 4.7 million tons and an increase of 16%, and soybean meal in bulk, with 5.8 million tons and growth of 15%.

"The movement of containers was greatly affected by the pandemic, with the reduction in ship travel and less industrial production, but the numbers point to a recovery in demand in Brazil and in the world", pointed out SPA president, Fernando Biral.

Cargo handling in general, during the month of October, fell by 3.1% compared to 2019, with 12.4 million tons. There was a drop in the transport of solid vegetable bulks and in the export of sugar.

In 2020, the accumulated movement of the year registered 122.5 million tons, an increase of 8.7% in the annual base and a record for the ten-month period. The result was driven by exports, which reached 90.4 million tons, up 13.3%. Imports, on the other hand, registered a decrease of 2.5%, a total of 32.2 million tons.

Cargo handling at the Port of Santos grows 5% in September, leveraged by exports

Santos (SP) - Cargo handling at the Port of Santos in September totaled 12.2 million tons, 5.2% above the same period in 2019. This was the second best monthly movement for the month of September, having been slightly superseded only by September 2017.

In the accumulated result for the year, the movement reached 110.1 million tons, an increase of 10.2% over the same period in 2019 and 9.7% over the previous record for the interval, recorded in 2018. With this, the expectation is to end the year with the best mark in history, above the 134 million tonnes of 2019 - which had already been a record.

Both in the month and in the accumulated result for the year, shipments rose by double digits, compensating for the drop in landings and guaranteeing positive performance.

Porto maintained its historical level of participation in the Brazilian trade chain, accounting for 28.3% of national exchanges in the year. Approximately 27.0% of domestic commercial transactions with foreign countries that passed through the complex had China as a partner country. São Paulo is the state with the largest share (56.8%) in commercial transactions abroad with Porto.

Highlight of the month

Shipments, in the month, totaled 9.1 million tons, an increase of 13.4% over the numbers registered on the same annual basis. In the accumulated result for the year, this cargo flow reached 81.6 million tons, an increase of 15% over the same period in 2019.

Landings, on the other hand, totaled 3.0 million tons, down 13.8% over September 2019. Discharges accumulated in the year totaled 28.6 million tons, 1.6% below the same period last year.

The movement of solid bulk totaled 6.2 million tons, up 12.2% over the same month last year. For the good performance of this type of cargo, the shipments of sugar and soy meal were decisive.

Liquid bulk increased 18.6%, totaling 1.6 million tons, reflecting the good performance of diesel and diesel, citrus juices and fuel oil operations.

Loose general cargo reached 457.8 thousand tons, up 6.9%, mainly due to cellulose shipments.

Containerized cargo fell 10.8%, from 386,165 TEU (equivalent to a 20-foot container) to 344,427 TEU.

Sugar stood out as the busiest cargo in the month, with 2.7 million tons shipped, 95.1% above the figure registered in September last year.

Highlight in the accumulated result for the year

In the accumulated result for the year, solid bulks totaled 59 million tons, an increase of 19% in the annual comparison, with this record result for the interval.

Liquid bulk had an increase of 10.6%, totaling 13.7 million tons, a record move for the period, by surpassing the best previous mark of 2017 by 8.2%.

Loose general cargo decreased by 2.1% in the accumulated movement in the year, to 4 million tons, despite the good performance of cellulose.

Container handling reached 3,011,362 TEU, a decrease of 1.6% over the same interval in 2019. The flow of ships in the year accumulates 3,692 vessels, 2.1% above the previous year.

Porto de Santos tem a maior movimentação entre os portos públicos do País, diz Antaq

O Porto de Santos foi o de maior movimentação entre os portos públicos do Brasil no primeiro semestre de 2020, de acordo com a Agência Nacional de Transportes Aquaviários (Antaq). No período, o porto santista movimentou 55,7 milhões de toneladas de cargas, representando um crescimento de 10% em relação ao primeiro semestre de 2019.

Os números são do Estatístico Aquaviário da Antaq, divulgado nesta terça-feira (18) pelo órgão. Segundo o balanço, o setor portuário brasileiro (portos públicos e portos privados) movimentou 538 milhões de toneladas no primeiro semestre de 2020. Em meio à pandemia da Covid-19, houve um crescimento de 4,4% em relação ao primeiro semestre de 2019, quando foram movimentados 515,2 milhões de toneladas.

O porto santista ocupou o primeiro lugar entre os portos públicos com 55,7 milhões de toneladas de cargas movimentadas. O segundo lugar do ranking ficou com o Porto de Paranaguá com 25,7 milhões de toneladas.

Santos operou 16,1 milhões de toneladas de soja, um aumento de 39% (4,5 milhões de toneladas) no período. Também foi registrado um aumento de 14% nas exportações, em relação ao primeiro semestre do ano passado.

Entre os portos privados, os principais destaques foram o Terminal Aquaviário de Angra dos Reis e o DP World Santos. O terminal da Transpetro movimentou 31,5 milhões de toneladas de petróleo, 8,7 milhões de toneladas a mais do que no primeiro semestre de 2019. Já o DP World de Santos registrou a maior movimentação de contêineres entre os portos privados, ao operar 387,2 mil TEU, um crescimento de 41% na movimentação em relação a igual período de 2019.

Em relação aos tipos de carga, no primeiro semestre deste ano em comparação ao mesmo período do ano passado, houve crescimento de 2,2% na movimentação de granel sólido e 15,5% de granéis líquidos.Já contêineres e carga geral solta apresentaram queda, respectivamente, de -1% e -6,2% em relação a igual período de 2019.

Entre as mercadorias que registraram crescimento de movimentação em comparação com o primeiro semestre de 2019, as principais foram petróleo e derivados (19,8%) e soja (31,4%), já minério de ferro (-9,7) e contêineres (-1%) registraram queda.


Navegação

Em relação aos tipos de navegação, foram movimentados na navegação de longo curso 375,5 milhões de toneladas no primeiro semestre de 2020, um crescimento de 2,5% na comparação com igual período de 2019.

Já a navegação de cabotagem movimentou 125,4 milhões de toneladas, com 10% de crescimento. No transporte de contêineres, a cabotagem apresentou crescimento de 2,6% no período, totalizando 750 mil TEU.

Na navegação interior, a movimentação atingiu 35,4 milhões de toneladas, contabilizando crescimento de 7,8%, em relação ao primeiro semestre de 2019. Na comparação entre os primeiros semestres de 2010 e 2020, o crescimento foi de 122%.
