Itajaí (SC) - The port complex of Itajaí and Navegantes gained spotlight when it received the import of the first Gripen hunting, of the Brazilian Air Force, manufactured in Sweden. Vehicles are just one of the types of goods handled in the port complex of Itajaí and Navegantes, which is the second largest in Brazil in container handling, behind only the Port of Santos.

The last few months have seen an increase in cargo handling in the port complex of Itajaí and Navegantes: the port of Itajaí has ​​grown by 12% in the first semester 2020, and Navegantes registered 7% more compared to the same period in 2019. Adding this cargo movement to the ports of Itapoá, São Francisco do Sul and Imbituba, the state of Santa Catarina participates with approximately 20% of all exports of Brazilian cargo.

It has 2 mooring berths with a length of 500m, asphalted and bonded patios with a total of 60 thousand m², a 25.5 thousand m² asphalt bonded backport, as well as a tourist pier with a 78 m long berth and two dolphins. mooring with a distance of 217 meters.

The new Evolution Basin, which started operating in June with ships above 306 meters, has already attracted the largest container ship to operate on the Brazilian coast, the APL PARIS, which is 347 meters long and 45.20 meters wide.


The structure of the Port of Navegantes (Portonave) has a total area of ​​400 thousand m², with approximately 360 thousand m² of bonded area, divided into three mooring berths, on a 900m linear pier, with a static storage capacity of 30 thousand TEUs. Portonave started operations in 2007 and was the first private container terminal in the country.

Currently, Portonave has an outstanding infrastructure, with 6 Portainers, 18 Transtainers, 40 Terminal Tractors, five Reach Stacker forklifts and four empty forklifts, two scanners and 2,100 reefers.


The port complex of Itajaí and Navegantes is the largest exporter of frozen chicken in Brazil. The Port of Itajaí has ​​a complete infrastructure for loading and unloading dry and reefer cargoes, while the Navegantes Port has an important competitive advantage with a fully automated Iceport cold store, which has six stacker cranes and static capacity for 16 thousand pallets.

Loads of ceramic articles, wood and by-products, kraft paper, machinery and accessories, tobacco, textile products, sugar and frozen meat also pass through the site.
